Ever stood under a shower? And then someone flushes and it gets cold
and your like "oh frick this" and move to the end of the shower to
avoid it? Oregon is like that, except you cant avoid the water... It
rained every day, all day. Hard rain, soft rain, mist, downpour,
sprinkles... It freaking even rained today after church, and i looked
up and there was a blue patch of sky with no clouds, BUT IT WAS STILL
RAINING. I DONT UNDERSTAND. But... There is a positive to this... All
this rain, and patches of warm afternoons brings MUSHROOMS. Ive
recently became obsessed with finding, identifying and looking for
mushrooms. Why? I dunno. But i get so psyched when i find one. I carry
a book with me i rented from the library so when we are out and about,
i can identify the good ones from the bad ones.
An average walk looks similar to this:
*me eyeing the ground and tree line for mushrooms*
*spots a extremely fine Coprinus comatus*
(look that up, ive seen em in AZ actually, and u can eat them just fine)
"YES A MUSHROOM"
*runs over*
*furiously digs up mushroom*
*throws mushroom in back pack*
*continues walking as if nothing happened*
Meanwhile my comp looks at me like im some sort of Gollum from lord of
the rings collecting crap off the floor HAHAHAHA
But i found a recipe for some mushroom soup I'm gunna try this week,
and we got a video of us identifying a really common mushroom so yeah.
Mushrooms!
On Friday we had our zone conference meeting, and we had Marcus B.
Nash from the 1st quorum of the 70 come and talk to us. The 70 are the
leaders just below the 12 apostles. So he comes in, and interviews 2-3
missionaries then he talks and helps out and stuff. Well lo and
behold, i of all people get chosen, by him, to get interviewed out of
the 200 something missionaries. He mentioned how he had a very
distinct prompting to meet with me when he came into the mission. So
I'm like sketched out cuz this guy, who literally was chilling with
the prophet 24 hours prior, out of 200 missionaries, chooses me, a new
guy, to interview because he felt "distinctly prompted ". Can you
imagine my face here?! Haha i was so nervous. But hes super cool, and
when we talked he simply asked about my family, and how my mission
really was going. Not just the work but how i personally was doing.
Well i told him how it really is going, and he just said to me " you
know, i dont know why i chose you, the chances are slim. But now i
know. All this interview is is just a hug from your heavenly father."
We didn't discuss missionary work, it was literally just a hug to let
me know that our heavenly father was watching over me, my family, and
those i love. Pretty freaking cool.
What else... Our neighbors had their baby this week and they were so
excited. Jason, the husband, cries like a baby every time he talks
about the baby, he was so excited haha! So that was cool. We then also
went to go find some prospective elders (men with the aaronic
priesthood who aren't ordained with the melchezidek priesthood yet)
and while pulling up to a house found some people felling a massive
tree. So i whipped out my ipad as fast as i could to get a video, its
pretty crazy. I dunno if my mom can upload videos to like the blog or
if i can send it in this message too so yeah! That was a cool
experience! I also had to give a talk on sunday cuz the speaker bummed
out and i had like one night to prepare, but it was good and the talk
went well!
So far so good, haven't killed myself from eating a poisonous mushroom
yet so thats good! Missionary work is still missionary work, now just
colder and wetter!
