So my first week in Melrose is now over! It was a pretty stinky week to
be honest haha. We got our car share taken away right as I got in,
most of our lessons fell through during the week, and we ended up
finding for 20+ hours this week, only to find no new investigators!
Yay! But we did have some lessons, and the ones we did have were
pretty solid lessons!
It’s been raining a ton this week, and the Umpqua
river that flows through Roseburg is up pretty high, and there has been a
bit of flooding in the lower areas, but nothing to crazy. Our area
covers the western area of the city, then a ton of farm land, but we
don’t have a car and biking it is too far, so we are pretty restricted
to our area right now. We share our ward with some sisters and all
sisters get cars in our mission, always.
So they mostly take care of the far ends of the area while
we get the ghettos. Sweet haha! Anyways, so we met some cool members
in the ward so far, there are about 200 that come each Sunday I heard, so
it’s fairly big!
Some cool stuff we did this week:
We went tracting one day and we knocked on this dude's door. He had a
Master Chief helmet sitting on his porch, from the game Halo. I asked
him before we left if he was the Halo fan and he said yes! So we
talked Halo a bit, then he straight up offered me the Master Chief
helmet... For free. I was stunned, my childhood dream was to have one,
and now I’m getting offered one, a really nice one, for free. I thought
the dude was joking, but he says his head is too fat to wear it and
rather make someones day then have it sit there. So I took it!!!!! Now
I have this Master Chief helmet sitting on my desk, that I may or may
not wear during studies...
This morning some members took us on a hike to some waterfalls. They
are named the Harkers, and the mom reminds me of my mom a little too
much!! But it was a super awesome hike, like 45 outside, but it was
actually sunny and not raining!! We went with the sisters that we
share a ward with also, and the Harker family came with us. They have
two kids out on a mission, then a daughter still at home. But the hike
was super cool, and becuase of insane rain, the water falls and rivers
were huge. We got alot of pics so I’ll send those also.
Over all, kind of a slow week, but hopefully it picks up soon! It’s an
interesting area for sure, but it’s nice enough hahaha! My birthday is
this week, so I guess thats cool! I turn 20, so I guess that makes me
somewhat an adult, cuz I’m not a teen anymore!
So yeah, Roseburg!
